Changing your address is an essential task to track important documents, keep your identity safe and make sure the lights turn on in your new home. For a successful and safe transition, you’ll need to let everyone from your bank to the government know where you are. Keep this list handy to help you stay on track of notifying all the right people of your new address. Make sure to peruse this list at least a week before you move to make sure you don’t miss anyone big!

• United States Postal Service (USPS) - probably the most important step; USPS will forward your mail for free for one year. However, the postal service may charge a fee to verify your identity when changing your address online.

• Maryland Department of Transportation | Motor Vehicle Administration - get a new license/ID with your new address

• Social Security Administration

• Internal Revenue Service (IRS) - It can take four to six weeks for a change of address request to fully process, so if it’s tax season and you’re waiting for your refund, keep that in mind.

• TSA PreCheck - Contact the enrollment provider you applied with to make changes to the address contained in your records. You will be provided information regarding documentation needed to process the change.

• Global Entry - You are responsible for maintaining up-to-date personal information in your Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) account. This includes any changes to your address. You can log-in online or call or visit the Enrollment Center.

• Other government benefits - retirement, disability, Medicare, etc.

• Insurance providers - health insurance, dental insurance, car insurance, life insurance

• Health Services - Doctor, Dentist, Veterinarian (if applicable), Pediatrician, Counselors/Therapists

• Educators - your kids’ school or your university

• Financial institutions - bank, credit card issuers, investment accounts, and loan providers

• Subscription services - including meal-prep deliveries, prescription deliveries, newspapers, magazines

• Current and/or future employers (for W2 forms)

• Financial advisors or accountants

• Shopping websites - Amazon, Target, grocery stores, and any other store that delivers to you regularly

• If you receive services from other financial agencies, including a credit union, a credit reporting agency, PayPal, an IRA/401k administrator, and/or an investment account holder, give them a heads up about your new address

• Cell Phone provider

• Gardeners, landscapers, snowblowers, etc.

• Gym memberships

• Business associates

• Neighbors (old and new)

• Smart home apps (for your TV, thermostat, doorbell, etc)

• Clubs and organizations

• Church (member directory and tithing tax documents)

• Friends and family
